More important than I used to realise, to be honest. During exam periods I tend to stay indoors for days on end, and I've noticed that I get irritable and find it harder to concentrate. Even a half-hour walk makes a real difference, so these days I make a point of getting out every day, whatever the weather.

Criterios de corrección

  • Grammatical Resource: a range of simple and complex structures (conditionals, modals, relative clauses, passives…) used with a good degree of control.
  • Lexical Resource: a range of appropriate vocabulary, including less common words and idiomatic expressions, to give and exchange views on familiar and unfamiliar topics.
  • Discourse Management: extended, coherent stretches of language with little hesitation, using a range of cohesive devices and discourse markers (what's more, having said that, as far as … is concerned).
  • Pronunciation: intelligible throughout, with appropriate intonation, sentence and word stress, and clearly articulated sounds.
  • Interactive Communication: initiating and responding appropriately, linking contributions to those of the partner, and moving the discussion towards an outcome.
  • Global Achievement: overall effectiveness in dealing with the task at C1 level.

Explicación

In Part 1, answer directly and then extend your answer with a reason, an example or a contrast. At C1, examiners expect natural, fluent answers with some less common vocabulary – avoid one-word answers and memorised speeches.

I think I'd split it in two. I'd spend the first six months volunteering somewhere completely different from home – possibly on a conservation project, as I've always been interested in wildlife. Then I'd travel slowly, by train rather than by plane, so that I actually got a feel for the places in between.

I'd say it's become more constant but perhaps less meaningful. We're in touch all the time through messages and group chats, which is great for arranging things, yet I sometimes feel we have fewer proper conversations. Having said that, it's made it much easier to stay close to friends who've moved away, which wasn't really possible before.
