The phone rang just as Tom was leaving the house. He was already late for his job interview, so he nearly didn't answer it.
"Hello?" he said quickly.
"Is that Tom Baker?" asked a woman. "This is the manager at Greenway Hotel. I'm afraid the interview has to be moved to two o'clock."
Tom couldn't believe his luck. He had missed his bus, and he was sure he wouldn't arrive on time. Now he had three extra hours.
He went back inside, made a cup of coffee and practised his answers again. At two o'clock, he walked into the interview feeling calm and confident. A week later, he got the job.
Criterios de corrección
Content (0–5): all the content is relevant and the reader is fully informed – every note or question is answered.
Communicative Achievement (0–5): the register suits the reader (friend, teacher, magazine readers) and the text holds their attention.
Organisation (0–5): the text is well organised and connected with linking words (and, but, because, so, then, however…) and paragraphs.
Language (0–5): a range of everyday vocabulary and simple and some more complex grammar, used with good control; mistakes do not stop the reader understanding.
Explicación
In Part 2 you write either an article or a story. A story must begin with the given sentence and continue it logically, with a clear beginning, middle and end; past tenses, time linkers (then, after that, suddenly) and a little direct speech help.

Emma looked at the map and realised she was completely lost. She had left the path an hour earlier to take a photo of a waterfall, and now every tree looked the same.
Her phone had no signal, and it was starting to get dark. Emma tried not to panic. She remembered her dad telling her that rivers usually lead to villages, so she decided to follow the stream downhill.
After thirty minutes, she heard a dog barking. Then she saw lights through the trees. It was a small farm, and the farmer's wife kindly let her call her parents.
When her dad arrived, he gave her a big hug. "Next time," he said, "stay on the path!"

When Jack opened the front door, he couldn't believe what he saw. His living room was full of balloons, and all his friends were standing there, smiling.
"Happy birthday!" they shouted.
Jack was confused. His birthday wasn't until the following week. Then his sister, Ruby, came out of the kitchen with an enormous chocolate cake.
"We knew you'd never expect a party a week early," she laughed. "It was the only way to surprise you!"
Jack laughed too. He had been feeling a bit lonely since they moved to the new town, but now he realised he had more friends than he thought. It was the best birthday he had ever had – even if it was a week early.
