Hi Jo,

That's fantastic news! I'm really pleased for you – you've wanted to try climbing for ages.

I'd love to come with you, but I can't next Saturday because it's my cousin's wedding. Maybe another weekend?

At the moment I go swimming twice a week before school, and I sometimes play volleyball on the beach with my friends.

I'd really like to try surfing. I love being in the sea, and it looks so exciting. There's a surf school near my aunt's house, so I might go this summer.

Love,
Sam

Criterios de corrección

  • Content (0–5): all the content is relevant and the reader is fully informed – every note or question is answered.
  • Communicative Achievement (0–5): the register suits the reader (friend, teacher, magazine readers) and the text holds their attention.
  • Organisation (0–5): the text is well organised and connected with linking words (and, but, because, so, then, however…) and paragraphs.
  • Language (0–5): a range of everyday vocabulary and simple and some more complex grammar, used with good control; mistakes do not stop the reader understanding.

Explicación

Part 1 is compulsory. Use all four notes, in order, and give each one at least a sentence; missing a note loses Content marks. Start and finish like a real email and match the register to the reader (friendly for a friend, polite for a teacher).

Hi Alex,

Thanks for your email. I can't wait to see you next month – it's going to be great!

While I'm there, I'd love to visit the old part of your city and take lots of photos. If we have time, I'd also like to go to a football match, because I've never seen a professional game.

I'd prefer to go by bike. It's cheaper than the bus and we can stop wherever we want. Also, I need the exercise!

I eat almost everything, but I'm allergic to nuts, so please tell your parents.

See you soon,
Marco

Dear Mrs Lane,

Thank you for your email. I think a class party is a really good idea – everyone has worked so hard this term.

In my opinion, it would be better to have it at school. Restaurants can be expensive, and at school we could play music and dance.

For food, I suggest that everyone brings something from home, like sandwiches, pizza or cakes. That way we would have lots of different things to try.

I'd be happy to help. I could make some posters to tell everyone about the party, or I could choose the music.

Best wishes,
Laura
