When I opened the door, I couldn't believe my eyes. My grandmother, who was eighty and had never used a computer, was sitting in the living room in front of my laptop, wearing my headphones.
"What are you doing?" I asked, trying not to laugh.
She explained that her best friend from school had moved to Argentina fifty years earlier and that they had lost contact. A neighbour had told her that people could find old friends on the Internet, so she had decided to try while I was out.
At first, I thought it would be impossible, but we spent the whole afternoon searching together. Finally, at about eight o'clock, we found a woman with the same name in a small town near Córdoba. My grandmother wrote her a short message and we waited nervously.
The next morning, there was an answer. It was her. Since then, they have talked by video every Sunday, and my grandmother is the happiest person I know.

Hi Sam,
How are you? I hope your exams went well! I'm writing because I've found a project that I think you'll love, and I'd like us to join it together.
A group of neighbours has turned the roof of the old library into a community garden. Every Saturday morning, volunteers grow vegetables, look after the plants and prepare boxes of food for a local charity. You don't need any experience, because the older volunteers teach you everything, from planting seeds to making compost.
I went last weekend just to have a look, and I really enjoyed it. The atmosphere was friendly, and it was great to spend a few hours outdoors instead of in front of a screen. Besides, it's a fantastic way to meet people of different ages.
Why don't you come with me next Saturday? We could meet at the bus stop at half past nine. Bring old clothes and a bottle of water!
Let me know what you think.
Love, Alex
Criterios de corrección
Task achievement and content: relevant ideas, adequate to the task and the reader, 140–180 words (0.75).
Organisation and cohesion: paragraphs, linking words, logical order (0.75).
Grammar: range and accuracy of structures (0.75).
Vocabulary and spelling: range, precision and correct spelling (0.75).
Texts clearly shorter than required or off-topic are penalised; memorised texts unrelated to the task: 0 points.
Explicación
The email must use an informal register (greeting, contractions, direct questions), include the three required points (what the project is, what volunteers do, why the friend should join) and close appropriately. The sample covers all three.
