I think they should, as long as it's encouraged rather than forced. Volunteering teaches young people responsibility and empathy, and it also helps them develop practical skills, like teamwork and communication, which are useful for their future careers. However, if it becomes compulsory, some students might see it as just another task to complete, which would defeat the purpose. So schools could offer a range of options and let students choose something they genuinely care about.

Criterios de corrección

  • Fluency and Coherence: speaks at length without noticeable effort; ideas are linked logically with a range of connectives and discourse markers
  • Lexical Resource: flexible, precise vocabulary, including some less common and idiomatic items; paraphrases when needed
  • Grammatical Range and Accuracy: a mix of simple and complex structures; most sentences are error-free
  • Pronunciation: easy to understand throughout; uses stress, rhythm and intonation to convey meaning

Explicación

A conditional opinion ('as long as...') followed by benefits, a risk ('if it becomes compulsory...') and a practical suggestion shows the depth of reasoning typical of Band 7+.

Yes, I strongly believe they should. Parks and green spaces are good for people's physical and mental health, since they encourage exercise and give people somewhere quiet to escape the noise of the city. They also help the environment, because trees absorb pollution and keep streets cooler in summer. Of course, land in cities is very expensive, and there's pressure to build housing, but I think even small green areas between buildings can make a real difference.

Explicación

Support your position with two different kinds of reason (health and environment), then acknowledge the counter-argument (cost of land) and answer it. This mirrors the structure examiners expect at higher bands.

Examiner: How do you think the way people travel will change in the future?

It's hard to predict, but I'd expect environmental concerns to have a big effect. If flying becomes more expensive because of taxes on carbon, people may take fewer long-haul trips and travel more by train within their own region. At the same time, technology could make some journeys unnecessary – for example, business meetings that happen online. That said, I don't think people will ever stop wanting to see other places in person.

  • Pronunciation: easy to understand throughout; uses stress, rhythm and intonation to convey meaning

Explicación

Speculate using hedging ('I'd expect', 'may', 'could') and conditionals. Mention two different forces (environment, technology) and close with a balancing point.
